Lithographed map with original hand color. Issued for Letts's Popular Atlas, published between 1881 and 1884. Many of the Letts maps are reissues of maps first published by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) in the 1830s and 1840s. The reissues by Letts frequently include new cartouches, legend, railroads, and some tables, such as "important lights and lighthouses" and "British Consulates." The Letts firm converted the SDUK maps to color lithographs, breathing new life into the finely crafted steel engraved maps by the SDUK.
In VG+ clean condition, some minor edge wear to the sheet, map surface very clean. An uncommon map with a lovely visual appearance.
Sheet measures 14" x 17." Image area measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2."
