A gorgeous late 18th century engraved plate with full hand color.  We see four wonderfully detailed globes: "Copernican Armillary Sphere", "Newly Improved Armillary Sphere", "Terrestrial Globe" and "Celestial Globe". The first armillary sphere depicts the planets on rotating arms w/ the twelve zodiacs around the diameter. The second, "Newly Improved" sphere depicts a small earth globe showing Asia and Australia (New Holland).  The "Terrestrial Globe" is a large depiction of the earth w/ the eastern coast of the Americas, eastern Africa and Europe and the arctics; we see dotted tracks marking Cook's journey. The last sphere has the night sky's constellations. The last two spheres both have compass roses on the bottom of the stands.

In VG+ to near fine, clean antiquarian condition.  An excellent engraving w/ splendid hand color.

Sheet measures 9 1/4" x 15."  Image area measures 8" x 14."
