Hungary & Turkey in Europe - c. 1790
Note: To view available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. An oversize and evidently very uncommon late 18th-century English map. In Good condition overall, a few minor age spots and a bit of light paper wrinkle, centerfold split almost all the way across the map with an old paper repair on the reverse (could be readily mended with archival paper glue so as to be only minimally visible), but still very attractive and visually pleasing. With full original hand color, the water area nicely tinted for a more dramatic visual effect, as issued. Late 18th-century folio sheet maps issued in London by Bowles and Carver are apparently quite uncommon, even scarce. Their enormous atlas must have been printed in very small numbers and had a very limited distribution. In searching through almost 20 years of Jolly's map price record and through 25 years of book auction records (ABPC), we can find very few Bowles & Carver maps in general. This information may be useful to a collector or dealer, since research would suggest these maps are only infrequently encountered. With great visual appeal, a lovely map for framing and display. Sheet measures 29" x 21." Engraved area measures 27" x 20." Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
