A splendid mid-18th century engraved map w/ expert hand color. Depicts the world in two hemispheres. Most notably, we see California as an island, an absent NW boundary in North America (and, consequently, absent eastern Russia/ Bering Strait) and a large, incomplete Australia.
In VG+ condition, suffers a bit of light soiling and the left margin is uneven due to the original binding but this can be matted out once framed. Fold lines, as issued. A delightful map of the mid-18th century world.
Sheet measures c. 7 3/8" x 6 1/2." Image area measures c. 7' x 5 1/4."
