Arabia - 1685
Note: To view available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. An exquisite late 17th century engraved map with splendid hand color. We see the name "Arabie Heureuse" (Happy Arabia) w/ a flying-banner cartouche at top. Several towns and fortifications are represented by tiny red buildings and incredible mountain chains are depicted w/ a single range, the "Pharanite," crossing the peninsula straight across. A highly desirable map, in near fine clean antiquarian condition with great visual appeal due to the superior full hand color. It was drawn by A.M. Mallet, an important geographer and military engineer who served in the court of King Louis XIV. Sheet measures c. 5" x 8 1/4." Image area measures c. 4" x 6 1/4."
