Issued London, 1671 by John Ogilby for the rare and important "America: Being the Latest, the most accurate description of the New World...".

A wonderful 17th century engraving of Native Americans in South America, likely Brazil. Based on the original text below the engraving, appears to depict an encounter between Dutch explorers and Tapuyan Indians (of Brazil?). Nice strong impression, clean and framable, short tear to top margin well outside the engraving and thus of no consequence.

Sheet measures c.10 3/4" W x 16 1/2" H. Image area measures c. 6 1/2 " W x 5 " H.  We recently bought a group of these rare Ogilby engravings, so we'll be offering them in the days ahead.
