A detailed mid-19th century folio sheet Johnson map with full original hand color. We see railroads, forts, roads, rivers and canals as they existed in the old West during the Civil War era. Includes routes explored for the trans-continental RR, and "Gov. Stevens route & Line of the Proposed Pacific Railroad", both labeled as such. The image area is surrounded by a lovely patterned border. An uncommon transitional map of this region, a map which was continually revised and thus appeared in only certain issues of the Johnson atlas.
In VG+, clean antiquarian condition for this fragile mid-19th century single page Johnson map. Light soiling along the bottom. Perfect for framing, with a pleasing patina.
Map measures c. 18 1/4" H x 14 1/4". Image area measures c. 16 1/2" x 12 1/2".
