Holstein, Germany - c.1680
Note: To view available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. A beautiful hand colored 17th century map focusing on this German region in northern central Europe, just below Denmark. Title sits within a simple circular cartouche with the distance scale above it at top right. A small compass rose above the cartouche in the East Sea. What makes this map so interesting is it appears to be a very rare variant of the 1630 Mercator minor plates used in Amsterdam. This map (like many others we bought at the same time) are all but identical to the 1630 plates except the cartouches have been entirely re-worked. Indeed, there is clear visual evidence of this from the plate visible on close inspection. Very scarce (late?) 17th century map. Map measures c. 8 1/2" W x 7" H (image area measures c. 7 3/8" W x 5 5/8" H). Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
