Lake Geneva - 1630
Note: to view available close-ups, click on the area you wish to see. Published Amsterdam, 1630 for Gerard Mercator's "Atlas Minor". A nice example with very pleasing full hand color, numerous important towns in Switzerland are highlighted with tiny cathedral symbols. Title sits within a strapwork cartouche as does the distance scale. Sheet measures 9" x 6 1/2", engraved area measures 7 1/2" x 5 1/2". In VG condition, a bit of dampstaining at right side, easy to overlook visually once matted, still very appealing visually. A desirable early 17th century map of Lake Geneva and the Swiss alps, from this scarce and now very expensive atlas. Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
