A very attractive and quite uncommon early 17th century map showing the island of Crete. The map shows a high level of detail, including major geographical features such as rivers, small islands around it, tiny villages representing important locations, and mountains. Perhaps most noteworthy is the presence of eight fantastic sea creatures! Also of great appeal is the prominent decorative cartouche.

Beautifully hand colored. Very pleasing visually and will make a wonderful conversation piece. In near excellent lovely condition- a nice example which will frame wonderfully. Original text surrounds the map as issued.

Sheet measures 8" W x 11 1/2" H, image measures 5 1/2" W x 4 " H.
