"Nubie," issued 1683 by Mallet, Paris. A very charming engraved map of Nubia, the ancient region lying south of Egypt, now divided between the Sudan and Ethiopia. Also shows parts of the ancient regions of Egypt, the Sahara Desert, the Barca Desert, "Pays Des Negres," and Ethiopia. Contains a number of ancient place names. Shows the then-known course of the Nile River and a number of its tributaries. Also shows major mountain ranges. A lovely pictorial cartouche depicting two winged cherubs holding a flower is at up left.
In VG+ antiquarian condition. With beautiful, full hand color. Sheet measures c. 5 3/8" W x 8 1/4"H, image area (including text) measures c. 4" W x 6 3/8" H.
