"Vue de Porto grande dans l'Ile de St. Vincent," issued c. 1747, Paris.  A lovely, mid 18th-century, engraved view of the Porto Grande, a bay of  one of the Cape Verde Islands. The Porto Grande is known as one of the safest bays in this group of Islands. This fascinating scene depicts several sailing ships in the bay, as well as an ominous column of smoke on the horizon, perhaps from a burning ship.  Several figure stand on the beach in the foreground. The scene may well tell a story of a shipwreck and rescue.

In VG+ antiquarian condition, with a few small light coffee colored stains to left margin (not detracting and way out in the margin). Features a fine level of detail in the engraving. With expert, full hand color. Sheet measures c. 7 1/4" W x 10" H, image measures c. 5 1/2" W x & 7 3/4" H.
