Stereoview Photographs of Egypt c. 1925
Note: to see close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. A very appealing group of stereoscope views of Egypt produced in c.1925 by Underwood & Underwood. Stereo views, produced in the early part of the 20th century, which were very popular in their day, although many of the views from the 1920's are actually somewhat less common than many people believe. Indeed, since the national fad of stereography began to fade in popularity in the 1920's, many of these later views must have had relatively limited distribution and were produced for a relatively short period. These particular views are in lovely clean condition and are titled as follows: "The sixty-five foot portrait statues of Ramses II, before rock hew temple of Abu Simbel," The Moslem mosque in the court of Ramses II, at Luxor Temple, Thebes," and "Colossal 'Memnon' statues at Thebes-the farther one used to emit a cry at sunrise." The tones are nicely varied and the resolution quite sharp. In near excellent, clean antiquarian condition with great visual appeal. Each measures c. 7" x 3 1/2". Backs have extensive descriptive text relating to the views. Sold as a group only.
