"Ancien Continent," issued in 1685, Frankfurt by A.M. Mallet. A charming depiction of the "old world" with a vast Southern Continent labeled "Terres Incognues" and a large undefined Australia. Despite the title, the world depicted is clearly a "modern" one, due to the inclusion of a Southern Continent and Australia, plus a correctly placed (more or less) of japan, etc., all features which never appear on maps of the Ancient World. Quite interesting for the distortions and inaccuracies, including some form a continent in the Northern Hemisphere.
In VG+ antiquarian condition. With beautiful hand color. Sheet measures c. 5 7/8 " W x 7 5/8 " H, image area measures c. 3 7/8 " W x 5 1/2 " H.
