"Die Statt Alsair", issued in Basel, in 1628 by  Sebastian Munster (1488-1552) the important German mapmaker responsible for publishing "Ptolomy," "Geographia" and "Cosmographia."

Highly decorative and detailed map of Cairo showing Nile River, city streets, buildings, markets & palaces.  At right pyramids of Giza, Karnak & Luxor are shown, "Babylonia" named as is Nile Delta with Crocodile River (indeed numerous crocodiles are shown walking out of the river onto land!). Very appealing birds-eye view indeed with a distinctly medieval visual quality. A real visual treat.

In near excellent antiquarian condition with beautiful full hand color, on a c. 17 1/8 " W x 14 1/2 " H sheet, image area c. 15 1/8 " W x 9 1/4 " H
