Stereo-View Photograph of Leiden, Netherlands
A very appealing stereoscope view of a memorial to the Reverend John Robinson, at whose bidding the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for the New World in 1620. This stereo-view was produced in c.1910 by the "Stereo-Travel Company" of New York. This company produced very high quality stereo views of the Netherlands in the early part of the 20th century which evidently did not sell well, as they are now only rarely encountered. This particular view is in lovely clean condition. The resolution of the photo is quite sharp, the better to discern the bas-relief rendering of the Mayflower at the top of the plaque. The text on the plaque is in English, and states that the Reverend John Robinson was "buried under this house of worship 4 Mar 1625." The full title as well as the number 27 are printed at the lower right. In near excellent, clean antiquarian condition with great visual appeal. Measures 7" x 3 1/2". Back is blank.
