Fine early Postcard collection of the French and Swiss Alps - c.1908An assemblage of 42 fine condition turn-of-the-century postcards of the famous mountain region. These were bought there by a woman who took a grand tour of Europe in the early 20th century and neatly tucked them into an album almost 100 years ago. They are just now seeing the light of day- for the most part, aside from tiny minor flaws, they are in lovely, fresh, clean condition, close to the day they were bought. This set includes several view of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, as well as the Chatelard train station. Some cards depict teams of mountain-climbers who had little more than ice-picks and some rope to rely on. They are almost entirely unused, bought as souvenirs by a post card collector who seemed to have a pretty good eye for interesting cards which captures the feel of the city at this time. Postcards measure c. 5 3/8 " W x 3 1/2 " H. Note: to see close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. A lovely assemblage of Alpine views with scenes, with scenes of courageous mountaineers. sold as a set only Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
