"Die Staaten von N.& S. Carolina, Georgia & Florida", published in 1853, Hildburghausen, Germany by Joseph Meyer (1796-1856). An uncommon mid-19th century map from a scarce mid-19th century German atlas with original outline hand color.
In addition to depicting these Southern East coast states from North Carolina down the coast to Florida, there are 4 detailed insets including St. Augustine harbor, Charleston, Newberne and the Gold Region of North Carolina. In addition to depicting major travel roads, also shown are the rail lines in then in existence. A variant it seems to the same map we sold a while back which had the date of "1850" printed in place of the "1853" date on this one, leading one to conclude some changes must have been made.
In VG++ to near excellent, mostly clean antiquarian condition, original outline hand color, with very little of the typical light foxing found on so many Meyer maps of this era on a c. 12 1/4" W x 10 1/2" H sheet, image measures 10 1/4" W x 8" H. The actual map is brighter and whiter than the top photo reveals- other photos are closer to real look. A nice map many collectors would not possess.
