An original 18th century Capt. Cook Voyages map with detailed inset maps from his third voyage, these areas visited and charted during winter of 1779/80. Issued in Paris shortly after this date, c. 1781-5 by Rigobert Bonne, the important French cartographer who held the prestigious title "Hydrographic Engineer de la Marine".
The inset maps include "Plan de la Baye D'Awatska sur la Cote Orientale du Kamtschatka", "Plan du Typa ou de Macao", "Partie du Japon ou Nipon", and 2 other smaller plans of St. Pierre & St. Paul Harbor as well as the island of Soufre. An attractive 18th century engraved map on thick hand made paper with expert and beautiful hand coloring. A very detailed depiction of Capt. Cook's ships tracks along these coastlines, shortly after Cook had been killed in Hawaii and Clerke moved to command the "Resolution" and Gore took over the "Discovery" (Clerke himself would die shortly after in August of 1779).
Remarkably detailed maps of a then tremendously remote Pacific area , issued almost contemporary with their first official cartographic appearance in Europe.
In near fine, clean condition on a 11 3/4"W x 15 1/4"H sheet, image area measures 9 1/4"W x 13 1/2"H.
