Issue is c. 11" W x 16" H sheet. New York: Harpers, 1864. In VG, mostly clean and fresh condition, this weekly issue of Harpers is from Saturday, July 16, 1864. Volume 4, No. 394. This fine heavily illustrated newspaper focuses on the most important issues of the time period. Depicted on the cover is Lieutenant-General Grant at his Head-Quarters. Other illustrations include: a full page illustration of the Naval contest off Chambourg between the "Alabama" and the "Kearsarge", a full page of three illustrations of General Sherman's campaign, a double page illustration of the Fourth of July, 1864, titled "Our Flag" and showing many depictions of the American flag and American life, a full page illustration of Rebel deserters coming within the Union lines, a half page illustration of the Spanish Squadron, commanded by Admiral Pinzon, taking possession of the Chincha Islands. Text is about issues concerning the illustrations and other prominent issues of the time period. An interesting and historical look into America's past.
