"Empire des Abyssins"; issued 1685, Paris by A.M.Mallet, the well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. This quaint map of Eastern Africa and Abyssinia Empire is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". A charmingly detailed map, with various tribal names in the region of the source of the Nile and a large title banner. Surely not a common 17th century Africa map and very desirable thus. Beautifully hand colored, in VG++ to near excellent, clean condition on a c. 5 1/4 " W x 8 1/4 " H sheet, image area c. 4 " W x 5 5/8 " H.
