Arronches (Portugal) : issued 1696, La Haye (Holland) by Mallet for his rare work "The Art of War".
An attractive and remarkably detailed 17th century engraved panoramic view of Arronches, a fortified town in Portugal (in Alemtejo, on the Caya river, 18 miles N.W. of Elvas). A cross section of the city walls below a charming panoramic birds-eye view in a hanging banner at the top. Certainly by virtue of its date a rather uncommon city view relating to Portugal.
In near excellent antiquarian condition, on a c. 4 3/4 " W x 7 1/2 " H sheet, image area c. 3 3/4 " W x 5 5/8 " H.
