This issue of Harpers is from Saturday, September 20, 1862. Vol.VI - No.299. This fine heavily illustrated newspaper focuses on one of the most important issues of the time period, the Civil War. Depicted on the cover is a full page illustration of a gallant color-bearer, which appears to be a Union officer, claiming victory over a Rebel officer. Other illustrations include: a full page of scenes from General Buell's campaign, a full page of three sketches showing citizens being enrolled and prepared for battle in Cincinnati, a full double page of General Sigel's Corps at the second Battle of Bull Run, which was fought August 29, 1862, a half page of the Army of the Potomac passing the Hygeia Hotel at Old Point Virginia, three late military generals, a full page map showing Kentucky and Tennessee, and two political cartoons. Text is mainly about events surrounding the Civil War and also included is a continuing chapter of Wilkie Collins story, "No Name." An interesting and historical look into America's past.
