Issue is c. 11" W x 16" H sheet.  New York: Harpers, 1862 In VG, mostly clean and fresh condition, this weekly issue of Harpers is from Saturday, June 14, 1862. Volume 6, No. 285. 

This fine heavily illustrated newspaper focuses on one of the most important issues of the time period, the Civil War. Depicted on the cover is a full page sketch of the Flag-Ship "Hartford" attacked by the ram "Manassas" and a fire raft in the Mississippi. Other illustrations include: a half page sketch of children being fed, a sketch of Robert Smalls, Captain of the Gun-Boat, "Planter," a half page of the Union troops marching in the trenches before Richmond, a half page of the release of Union prisoners to General Burnside at Washington, NC, Winslow Homer's full double page engraving of "News from the War," a full page of the starving people of New Orleans being fed by the U.S. Military Authorities, and two political cartoons. Text is about issues concerning the Civil War, and also included is a continuing chapter of "No Name," a story by Wilkie Collins. 

An interesting and historical look into America's past. Issue is 16pp.
