World 1728 by Chatelain

A charming little early 18th century map of the world in spheres, with an entirely undefined eastern half of Australia, which is still attached to New Guinea. Japan displays a curious distortion and another vaguely hinted at land mass off it's northeastern shoreline. The entire northwestern coast of North America is left blank, to reflect the unknown nature of it. No hint of the Rockies. Very appealing visually, in near excellent antiquarian condition on a c. 9 1/4" W x 6 1/2" H sheet, image area c. 8 1/4" W x 5 3/8" H, original fold lines as issued. Beautifully hand colored.
