A delightful mid-16th century wood block map of northern Germany, from the monumental work by Sebastian Münster - "Cosmography". From a very rare Italian edition of 1568, printed by Henrigo Pietro in Basel.
The wood block image displays a wonderful medieval style and vitality quite particular and unique to wood engraved maps of this vintage.
Quite a scarce map, a nice impression, mostly clean condition, well preserved for its sheer age. Because the map was printed on a nice heavier paper, there is just a most minimal amount of "show through", much less than typically seen on Münster maps.
c. 8 " W x 12 " H sheet, (close up image size is c. 5 1/4 " W x 3 " H).
In VG+ condition. With full hand color.
