"Ancienne Libye Interievere das Alte Untere Livyen," issued 1719, Frankfurt by A.M. Mallet.  Mallet was a well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV.

This charming and quite scarce engraved map of Ancient Libya (northwestern Africa) is from Mallet's scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers." Quite interesting as it depicts a vast series of interior rivers, lakes, and mountain ranges, most of which would have been completely unverified or explored by Europeans at this date. Hypocryphal 18th century cartography and curious for this reason alone.

Very appealing visually, in near excellent antiquarian condition with beautiful full hand color on a c.  6 3/4" W x 8 1/4" H sheet, image area c. 4 1/4" W x 5 3/4" H.
