Bird's Eye View of Cairo, Egypt 1719 Mallet
Note: to see three available close-ups of this picture, click on the area you wish to see. Issued Paris, 1719 by A.M.Mallet. Mallet was a well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. This charming map is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". Surely not common and very desirable thus. The actual engraving is sharper than our photo reveals. A wonderful early 18th century birds-eye view of Cairo with numerous processional figures in the foreground. A banner title cartouche across the top. Will look wonderful once framed. In near fine antiquarian condition with beautiful full hand color on a c. 8 " H x 6 3/4 " W sheet, engraved area c. 5 1/2 " H x 4 " W.
