King's Residence, Stockholm 1719 by Mallet
Note: to see a close-up of this picture click on the area you wish to view. "Yacobdal- die Burg Jacobsthal", issued Frankfort, 1719 by A.M.Mallet. This wonderful view of Stockholm's Royal Palace (residence of the King) as seen early in the 18th century is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". Situated on the island of Gustavsholm, work on it commenced in 1697 and not finished until 1753, meaning the depiction here was issued in the midst of it's ongoing construction. This panoramic view includes a busy quay with guards and cannons, numerous boats, and a banner title. Mallet was a well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. Surely not a common view and very desirable thus. In near excellent antiquarian condition with attractive full hand color on a c. 6 3/4 " W x 8 " H sheet (image size is c. 3 7/8 " W x 5 1/2 " H).
