Waradin, Hungary 1719 by Mallet
Note: to see a close-up of this picture click on location you wish to view "die Stadt Waradin", issued Frankfort, 1719 by A.M. Mallet. A wonderful early 18th century map of this Hungarian town and surrounding fields, with a fantastic view of river and canals running through town, houses drawn in great detail, and an excellent fort surrounded by a moat. People can be seen walking into the town, getting ready to cross the bridge. A gem of a map and rather uncommon. Mallet was a well traveled military engineer and geographer who worked in 17th century France under King Louis XIV. This wonderful view of Waradin as seen early in the 18th century is from his scarce monumental work "Description de L'Univers". In near excellent antiquarian condition with attractive full hand color on a c. 7 " W x 8 " H sheet (image size is c. 4 1/8 " W x 5 3/4 " H).
