Africa 1667 by Ortelius
One of the charming miniature Ortelius maps issued in the 17th century, published Venice, 1667 "per Scipion Banca". A pirated (unauthorised) edition of Ortelius' "Theatro del Mondo (Theatre of the World)". A delightful map of Africa, with full expert hand color. Three tall masted ships surround the continent, with a flying sea serpent off Madagascar's coast. In excellent antiquarian condition with only minor age faults not detracting visually.
