Capt. Cook- Macao and Kamtschatka Harbour  c.1787 by Bonne

Cartographer: Captain Cook (Bonne)
Full Title: "Macao and Kamtschatka Harbour etc."
Published: Paris - c.1787

One of Bonne's fine late 18th century maps focusing on these areas visited by Capt. Cook in the 1770's. Bonne succeeded Bellin as the Hydrographic Engineer to the Marine in Paris, a Royal Appointment. With expert full hand color. A wonderful glimpse into 18th century exploration of these remote Pacific regions which would have been newly mapped with precision &accuracy for the first time by Westerners at this time. Top left inset is of a "Plan de la Baye D'Awatska sur la Cote Orientale du Kamtschatka", bottom left is "Plan du Typa ou de Macao". At top right is the coast of Japan. The tracks of Cook's ships are clearly marked, along with sounding depths.
