19th Century City Plans - British Isles and Ireland

More Ireland More Scotland More England More British Isles

From two similar atlases, one titled “Commercial and Library Atlas of the British Isles from the Ordnance Survey with Index-Gazetteer Plans of Towns," published in London, 1895 by G.W. Bacon & Co., Ltd. The other, earlier atlas (c.1881) is titled "New Large Scale Ordnance Atlas of the British Isles."  It must be noted that these city plans differ from each other  as concerns the hand coloring, the scale used, and the amount of detail included in city suburbs.  Thus, they are essentially entirely different plans of the same city.

We currently have the following lithographed maps with original full hand color.  These maps are incredibly detailed, each showing hundreds of houses, buildings, roads and railways, parks and waterways.  Few city plans show the level depicted on these plans. The coloring also displays a lovely palette, with a very attractive age patina to it- these plans would make wonderful gifts and will look delightful framed .

We have photographed a couple examples of typical maps- some of them are single sheet and others are oversize. All are in clean, excellent condition with only very minor very light occasional age spots which do not detract in the least visually.
