A charming and well preserved early 20th century embossed period binding includes paper covered directory and folding linen-backed full color map. Gilt title on front board surrounded by circular and floral black embossed designs, rear board shows central blind-stamped
snowflake and similar outline design from front. Cloth on spine lightly soiled but nothing extreme or severe. Front joint frayed, splitting at head.
"An Alphabetical List of 7,000 Streets to Accompany the Indicator (Tape) Map of London in which every street or public building required can be instantly found by means of a tape. The whole Map is ruled in quarter-mile squares. Also, an Index to Public Buildings, Places of Amusement, Railway Stations, & c." is pasted as issued to inside of front board. This directory includes directions on using the long folding tape indicator and map; fascinating.
The linen backed map is in full hand color and wonderfully preserved, clean and nice. As described within the directory's title, the map is divided into quarter mile squares for measuring distances with the accompanying measuring tape. We note endless details on the map, virtually every single street no matter how small named.
Book measures c. 4 3/4" W x 7" H. Large folding map measures c. 35 3/8" W x 24" H. 55 pp.
