A mid- to late 19th century period black 1/2 leather binding. Title in gilt on front board and spine. Brown cloth boards and leather gently worn; top board chipped along upper edge (which can be seen in the first image). Binding sound.
Mostly clean internally w/ hundreds of woodcut illustrations. Many full page engravings. Includes a portrait of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) w/ a short article (paragraph) by Clemens entitled "An Autobiography". One full page engraving missing corner. Marbled endpapers.
In VG to VG+ clean condition. A full year of this 19th century illustrated art periodical; twelve monthly issues. This is the scarce first year in which the journal was published in the folio sized edition.
Book measures 11 1/2" x 16". 198 pp.
