Margaret Smith's Journal - 1892
An appealing and decorative late 19th century publisher's period half black leather binding with marbled boards. Spine in five gilt-ruled compartments with gilt title and decorative gilt devices, raised bands with gilt; a very tiny nick at the headband of the spine (but not actually on the spine leather) but it is so tiny and trivial that it is hardly worth mentioning. Boards are bright, shiny and clean with only minor rubbing and edgewear - minimal shelf wear, leather on boards gilt-ruled. Binding tight and sound. Top edge gilt. Mostly clean
internally. Frontis is portrait of This is volume 5 of the Riverside
Edition set - The Writings of John Greenleaf Whittier in Seven Volumes. Stands
alone, text is complete within itself. Book measures c. 8" H x 5
1/4".
