Volume Two Only (volume with the most lithographed plates)

An ornately embossed mid-19th century publisher's period red cloth binding.  Pictorial gilt binding w/ India 's architecture on the spine, Indian woman playing a sitar on the top board.  Cloth is chipped at spine ends, board corners, gently rubbed. Joints cracked.  Binding sound.  Signed binding: "Westleys & Clark / London." 

Mostly clean internally w/ twenty-five wonderful color lithographed plates.  Six plates listed in the "list of illustrations" are not present ("25,26,27,28,29,30. Plants and Ornatments") but it does not appear that any pages have been removed so these plates may not have actually ever been included in this volume.  Frontis depicts five portraits from miniatures. Other plates show the famous architecture of India, such as Taj Mahal, gorgeous interiors, exteriors of temples, etc. Hinges cracked.

In VG+ condition, overall, w/ twenty-five lovely fine chromolithographed plates. Please note, this is volume two, only, which is able to stand alone. Includes  the Pindaree System, Dholepore, Agra , Noor Jehan, Futtehpore Secree, Bhurtpore, Goverdhun, murder of Mr.Fraser, marriage of Jat chief, Delhi & New Delhi, Meerut and the Begum Sumroo.

Book measures c. 6 3/4" x 9 3/4."   459 pp.
