Decorative blind-stamped dark brown cloth with gilt illustration of Atlas holding up the world at foot of spine and a pile of armaments (arrows, shield, sword, and laurel wreath) with rays shining from behind at head of spine. Small head band split, small chip head of back hinge, small water stain at the top inside corner of pages 370-635, faint and does not obscure text. Minimal foxing. Double column, alphabetized, in encyclopedia form.

Overall, in Very Good condition. Book measures c. 6 3/4" x 10". 816 pp. A wonderful reference of the world in the 1850's.
