Les Veillees du Chateau - c. 1850

Author: Madame de Genlis
Full Title: Les Veillees du Chateau
Published:

Paris: Didier et Cie., n.d., circa 1850 (based on the publisher).

A lovely two volume set of mid-19th century red cloth bindings w/ red leather spines. Ornately gilt spines in five compartments w/ gilt title, decorative stars and volume numbers and raised bands; leather gently rubbed in spots but, overall, quite an attractive shelf appearance. Red cloth boards are ruled in blind, lightly soiled w/ minimal shelfwear.  Joint leather gently rubbed in just a couple of spots. Boards are very gently bowed (so slight that it is hardly worth mentioning).  Bindings tight and sound.

Text blocks are mostly clean w/ twelve plates by Bourdier (signed within the block). All lithographed plates have tissue guards. Frontispieces depict "Le Chaudronnier / Voila l'homme vertueux et sublime, digne de votre protection" and "Alphonse et Dalinde / Thelismar et les Aauvages consideraient ce spectacle avec admiration et etonnement,"  respectively.

Overall, in VG+ condition w/ lithographed plates.  Contents nice and clean w/ an appealing shelf appearance.

Books measure c. 5" x 7 1/8."  360 / 350 pp.
