A mid-19th century period red half leather binding. Attractive and bright gilt-tooled title and raised bands on spine, leather gently rubbed. Half leather and marbled paper covered boards are ruled in gilt, gently rubbed w/ light soiling and edgewear, corners gently bumped. Binding tight and sound. Marbled edges match boards.
Mostly clean internally w/ twenty-two engraved plates by John Tenniel. Engraved frontis depicts "Margaret Spencer."
In VG+ condition with only minor gentle wear, internally clean. A nice 19th century leather bound example of this first edition illustrated by Tenniel (famed for his illustrations in Lewis Carroll's Adventures in Wonderland).
Book measures 5 3/4" x 9." 376 pp.
