Decameron - 1906

Author:

M. Giovanni Boccaccio

Full Title :

The Decameron

Published:

London: Gibbings & Co. LImited, 1906

An appealing four volume matching set of early 20th century publisher's red cloth bindings.  Smooth spines w/ gilt title, volume numbers and year of publication, cloth gently rubbed at spine heads.  Boards are mostly bright and clean w/ an intricate gilt device on the top boards w/ gilt title and author; volume three suffers a small area of light staining to the top board, else minimal wear.  Bindings tight and sound.  t.e.g, deckled edges.

Text blocks are mostly very clean w/ numerous lithographed plates depicting various scenes from the novel. Charming half title page and frontis in each, most depicting nude women.  Signatures on inside front board and f.f.e, "J. Frank Wellington" and "H.W. Samson."

In VG+ clean bright condition.  An attractive four volume set, appears to be a scarce illustrated edition revised from the "anonymous translation" of 1741 for Bohn's Library.

Books measure c. 4 7/8" x 7 1/4."
