A charming four volume matching set of early 19th century red half leather bindings. Spines in six compartments w/ gilt devices and title, raised bands, leather chipped at spine ends and slightly rubbed, overall. Gilt ruled boards in red leather and red cloth, bright and mostly clean w/ some corner wear. Bindings tight and sound. Marbled edges. Mostly clean internally w/ very scattered light foxing throughout. Profusely illustrated w/ fine copper engravings depicting scenes and characters from the story. Marbled endpapers. In all, in VG condition w/ VG+ contents (nice, clean engravings). A charming little set and a nice example, scarce. Books measure c. 4 1/4" x 6 1/4."
