Barnaby Rudge & Hard Times - c. 1890
An attractive late 19th century period 1/2 leather binding. Ornately gilt spine in six decorative gilt-tooled compartments w/ gilt title on contrasting red leather label and contrasting black leather label, slightly raised bands - quite an appealing shelf appearance. Half leather and marbled paper covered boards are bright and clean, leather rubbed at corners. One tiny scuff on the front joint. Binding tight and sound. Page edges age-toned, t.e.g. Mostly very clean internally, thirty-three illustrations throughout. Frontis depicts "Barnaby Rudge / Photogravure - From Drawing by F.O.C. Darley.", w/ descriptive paper guard. Title page printed in black and red. Marbled endpapers match boards. Originally part of a larger set uniformly bound, this volume now stands alone. A tiny gilt "12" at the base of the spine which is easy to overlook or miss. In near fine, clean condition. A nice example of a 19th century leather binding for this Dickens classic. Measures 5 1/2" x 8." Ordering: Please use the Buy Me button below, or phone the shop to order this map.
