Cowper's Poetical Works - 1842
Period full leather binding. Smooth spine in five blindtooled compartments, ornate gilt devices and gilt title; spine leather slightly darkened and gilt gently faded. Gilt-ruled boards w/ central intricate gilt devices, lightly soiled on bottom board w/ top corner gently bumped but, overall, leather is smooth and supple. Lovely patterned gilt inner dentelles. Binding tight and sound. a.e.g. Text block lightly and uniformly age-toned w/ very scattered, light soiling primarily confined to the first and last few pages. Illustrated half title page depicts three angels holding hands. Inscription on f.f.e, "To Emily Jane Geddes / Barrington, Nova Scotia from James Geddes / (?) Canada West. 24th Sept 1853." Paper on inside front board is rubbed and second free endpaper is chipped. An uncommon mid-19th century title in a beautiful period full leather binding, appealing shelf appearance, VG+ condition.
