A handsome late 19th century half leather binding. Spine, with a highly appealing shelf appearance, is in six gilt-ruled compartments w/ central gilt devices, gilt title on contrasting leather label; gilt and leather only gently rubbed. Half leather boards are blindtooled in rule w/ marbled paper, paper label on top board w/ title (easily removed w/ a little water and a few minutes patience); leather scuffed at board corners and paper rubbed along board edges. Red edges, marbled endpapers.
A scarce leather bound first edition.
Book measures c. 5 7/8" x 8 1/2." 512 pp.
