The Horn of Plenty - c. 1880
Here we have a large mid to late 19th century pictorial binding. Top board depicts a full color collage of Victorian era children playing games, rear board depicts a b&w country scene w/ a young woman crossing over a wooden bridge. Boards are soiled and rubbed w/ chipped paper around the board edges and corners. Brown cloth spine with two inch split at the rear joint and is frayed at the spine tail. Text block exhibits scattered foxing and light soiling with a profusion of b&w illustrations - several on every page. Text block is detached from the boards with a few loose pages. Pages are unnumbered but the story appears complete. Pink endpapers, f.f.e. is wrinkled and worn. This Victorian era illustrated children's book is quite charming despite the wear. The title refers to the commonly used English adage indicating abundance; appears to be a rare cornucopia of vintage children's poems and stories. Book measures c. 13" x 16". Unpaginated.
