Life of Daniel Webster - 1870
589 pp. / 729 pp. plus publisher advertisements. An attractive two volume set of late 19th century matching period hunter green cloth bindings. Gilt title, author and volume on smooth, gilt-ruled spines; cloth slightly chipped and frayed at spine ends. Central gilt crest, "Vera Pro Gratis", on top blind-tooled - ruled boards, similar design blind-tooled on bottom boards. Cloth is mostly clean, exhibiting minimal wear and some soiling to volume two top board. Joints on volume two lightly rubbed with a couple of shallow nicks but really these slight flaws do not detract from an overall attractive set. Binding cracked at center of volume two but, otherwise, bindings tight and sound. Text block mostly clean, several portraits of Webster present. Frontis portrait of Daniel Webster in each and a third portrait present in volume two - tissue guards present. Overall, a nice two volume late 19th century set of hunter green cloth bindings pertaining to the life of Daniel Webster. The cloth appears blue in the photo, but, please note, the cloth is actually a dark green. Books measure c. 9 3/8" H x 6 1/2".
