A very appealing four volume matching set of mid-19th century publisher's period red half leather bindings. Spines with gilt-raised bands, gilt title and author in compartments. Half gilt-ruled leather and marble paper covered boards are clean with minimal wear. Leather is supple and smooth. Joints very lightly rubbed, a tiny tiny chip from head of vol. 1 which is easy to miss or overlook. Bindings tight and sound. Great shelf appearance.

Text block mostly very clean, numerous charming full page engravings throughout. This four volume set includes "Queens of Society" in two volumes and "The Wits of Beaux and Society" in two volumes. Tasteful book plate on rear side of f.f.e., "Charles A. Welch".

In all, a lovely four volume matching set in mid-19th century period red leather. Very handsome set.
