Lalla Rookh - 1858
A fantastic, heavily ornate gilt mid-19th century period full red leather binding. Ornate spine in six intricately gilt compartments, gilt raised bands, gilt title; leather very gently rubbed at ends. Patterned gilt ruled boards, smooth supple leather, corners gently bumped. Lovely patterned gilt inner dentelles. Leather gently rubbed at joints. Overall, beautiful binding. Binding tight and sound. a.e.g. Text block mostly clean with thirteen full page steel engravings with paper tissue guards. Engraved title page depicts a scene from "The Fire-worshippers" by Edward Corbould; engraved frontis depicts "Lalla Rookh" by K. Meadows. Also included drawings by T. P. Stephanoff. Scattered foxing on endpapers and plates due to the type of paper used to create the engravings, last page of the list of illustrations is worn and slightly torn at the bottom margin with light soiling in the bottom margin of several pages only.
