Quaint and Historic Forts of North America - 1915

Author: John Martin Hammond
Full Title: Quaint and Historic Forts of North America. With Seventy-one Illustrations
Published:

Philadelphia & London: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1915

An appealing gilt early 20th century publisher's red cloth binding. Gilt title, author and publisher on smooth spine with central gilt fort. Gilt cannon on front board. Overall, quite a clean example, corners very gently bumped and spinje ends just a bit bumped. Binding tight and sound. Deckled edges.

Profusely illustrated with 71 b&w photographs. Title page printed in black and red with central woodcut depicting "Old Gateway - Fort Marion - St. Augustine - Florida U.S.A". Frontis, with tissue guard, depicts "The Ancient Watch-tower of Fort Marion, St. Augustine, Florida. Previous owner's tiny stamp, "Irving W. Sargent, Counsellor at Law, Lawrence Mass." on inside front board, "March 6, 1922" in black ink.

In all, a near fine clean bright example of this profusely illustrated early 20th century red cloth binding. Appears that it has never been read.

Book measures c. 9 5/8" H x 6 5/8".  309 pp.
